Introduction

The aerospace industry deals with the engineering side of aviation. The industry has been growing over the past 25 years with an average annual output growth of 12.7 per cent since 1990. Employing about 18,000 people in 2006, up 11 per cent from 2005, the industry registered an output of S$6.3 billion over the same period. The value-added (total output minus cost) was 17 per cent higher at S$2.6 billion. Aerospace companies are increasing their commitment in Singapore to support their Asia-Pacific activities. This includes design and Research & Development, expansion of facilities, and setting up of new manufacturing plants to cater to growing demand. These companies have also leveraged on the complementary capabilities of Singapore¡¯s highly developed electronics and mechanics industries for their operations.
